There was a lot of Ghanaian interest in La Celeste's quarterfinal clash with Les Bleus at the World Cup on Friday

It was certainly a thrilling fixture as France handed Uruguay a 2-0 defeat in Nizhny Novgorod to book a place in the last four of the World Cup in Russia.

From goalkeeper Fernando Muslera re-enacting "The Karius" for France's first goal, Kylian Mbappe mustering a ridiculous acting that could deny Neymar the World Cup Oscar, Luis Suarez - yes, none other than Barca's Luis Suarez - launching an onslaught in protest of the PSG star's theatrics, and Jose Gimenez setting off what is normally post-match tears over five clear minutes before the final whistle, there was certainly a lot to talk about.

But in the end, it was the score that mattered most as Les Bleus secured a place in the semis for the first time since 2006.

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane headed home Antoine Griezmann's free-kick for the opener in the 40th minute, before the Atletico Madrid star added the second goal with a long-range shot, which tricked Muslera on its way into the net.

For Ghana, whose 2010 World Cup campaign ended in an excruciating reversal at the hands of the Uruguayans in the quarterfinals, watching Friday's fixture from a 'neutral perspective' - even if that wasn't truly the case - was fun.
