Eusebio takes charge of Girona

The former Barcelona midfielder is back in Catalonia, having agreed to take over as at the La Liga side

Girona have named Eusebio Sacristan as their new head coach.

The former Barcelona midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Catalan club, who saw Pablo Machin leave to take at Sevilla last month.

Girona, who finished 10th last season in their first campaign in La Liga, will present Eusebio as their new boss on Friday.

The 54-year-old was sacked by Real Sociedad in March after they failed to sustain a challenge for the European places.

He was previously in charge of Barcelona B and Celta Vigo.

Eusebio was linked with the Barcelona job in 2017, but dismissed the links while deciding to continue with Sociedad

"Now, I owe my loyalty to Real, who believed in me and give me support," he told AS at the time. 

Just over a year later the manager has moved on. 

Girona finished two points above Eusebio's side this season.
