The former Chelsea midfielder now boasts of a Uefa coaching license and could become a full-time coach after retirement

Former Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has acquired a Uefa B coaching license, according to his former national teammate Laryea Kingston.

The 35-year-old, who also represented Real Madrid and A.C Milan, is without a club currently after parting ways with Indonesian top-flight Persib Bandung.

“I felt very happy after Michael Essien told me that he has obtained his Uefa B license certificate,” Kingston told Ghanasoccernet.

“I was really delighted to hear the news because some of my former teammates at the Black Stars are shy to be on the touch-line but I believe such steps can help develop our football.

“I will urge most of my colleagues to go into coaching. People like myself, Essien, John Paintsil and my brother Richard [Kingson] will help the game grow because we are going to apply the experience we acquired during our active playing days," he added.
