The Flying Antelopes have accumulated league matches because of their involvement in the Caf Confederation Cup where they got to the group stage before they were eliminated and unlike others in the top-flight that have their league games at weekends; Rangers are using the midweek to clear some of their outstanding games.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men faced Kwara United at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin and they were able to hand the Harmony Warriors their first home defeat of the season after they scored two quick first-half goals through Ifeanyi George and Godwin Aguda in the 25th and 28th minutes while the hosts determination to stage a comeback only yielded a consolation goal in the second-half through Ebenezer Odeyemi in the 65th minute.
The win has taken the Flying Antelopes to the top of the Group A league table with 24 points from 11 games while the Harmony Boys with Abubakar Bala in charge are in the eighth spot with 18 points from 14 games.
Rangers still have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of Group A with three outstanding games against Lobi Stars (home), Bendel Insurance (away) and Rivers United (away) yet to be played. They make a trip to Akure for a top-flight Matchday 15 tie with Sunshine Stars.
Lobi Stars who competed in the Caf Champions League and are also with some outstanding games yet to be decided pipped Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Makurdi to leap to the fourth spot with 20 points from 12 matches.
The Pride of Benue will trade tackles with Sunshine Stars in the return leg of the tie played on Monday in Benue while their game with Enugu Rangers (away) is fixed for a later date.
