Ghana new boy Raphael Dwamena says he is more concerned with the success of the Black Stars than personal glory.

The FC Zurich striker had a memorable international debut on Sunday, scoring twice in the 5-0 defeat of Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On the day, the 21-year-old beat off competition from the more established Jordan Ayew and Abdul Majeed Waris to start as Asamoah Gyan's striking partner, but reckons he is not around to take on individuals.

“I am not here [the Black Stars] to compete with anyone. I just want to help the team to get better,” Dwamena told Kwese Sports.

“I want to help the team achieve bigger things; not to compete.

“Anytime I am given the chance to play, I will give out my best.

“It's not about competition; it's about how the team moves on. We all want the success of the team.

"If the team does well, we will all take the glory but if we fail, we will be blamed.

"It's not about competition. The success of the team is the more important thing.”

The youngster was one of the provisional players, who failed to make Ghana's final squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

On the back of his outstanding first game, thanks to new Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah, the former Red Bull Salzburg frontman will be hoping to earn another call-up for the double-header with Congo in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in August/September.

Before that, though, he is expected to be in action when the Black Stars take on Mexico and the USA in international friendlies on June 28 and July 1 respectively.
