Darren Keet laments inconsistent back four for Bidvest Wits' disappointing start

Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet believes the fact that they haven’t had a consistent back four this season, is part of the reason why they have started the campaign so slowly.

“Last season our defenders were a massive part in winning the league. A few changes here and there with injuries and suspensions and there has been instability,” Keet told the media.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper recently returned from injury and he believes once they find the consistency in defence, they will get back to winning on a regular basis.

“I mean ‘Tyson’ (Hlatshwayo) came back from injury, played in one game then he was suspended for the next game. So, we lack a bit of consistency, and to get the same defence out there, I think that will be important for us,” Keet said.

They will be relieved that Buhle Mkhwanazi, who was key to last season’s title triumph, has resumed light training and could make his first start in the near future.

That said, they still have to up the ante and improve their shocking start to the season as it’s all cycle they are aiming to remedy.

“At the moment it’s all about fighting. And yes, it starts from the defence, and we’ve got to make sure that we’re good because when the defence is good, the rest of the team becomes better," he continued.

“It allows the midfielders and the strikers to become better, to give us the goals we need and in turn gives confidence back to the defenders to do their job again, and do a job comfortably," said Keet.

“It’s a cycle. I think we’ll come right. There’s no reason why we won’t. It’s just a matter of fighting for it,” he concluded.
