Could Newcastle United sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek in January?

Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be a transfer target for Newcastle United in January as it looks increasingly likely he won't start many games for Chelsea.

The 22 year-old was a transfer target for many clubs after last summer’s World Cup in Russia.

However the attacking midfielder decided to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place in Maurizio Sarri’s side. Disappointingly for him he has only started one game this season against Hungarian side Mol Vidi in a Europa League game. This lack of game time has resulted in him being dropped from Gareth Southgate’s England team.

Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Everton are thought to be interested in signing him as they all look to bolster their squads.

Newcastle United being the unlikely destination of the three clubs may actually be the best placed team for him.

Rafa Benítez’s side currently sit in the relegation zone after having a hard run of fixtures. The club has well documented issues between current owner Mike Ashley and the Newcastle fans. He has refused to invest heavily in the squad over that last few seasons however loan signings have been made regularly.

His Chelsea teammate Kenedy is currently on loan at St James’ Park. The Brazilian is already a Toon Army favourite and with this kind of backing Loftus-Cheek could turn his season around.
