Chippa United have handed their head coach Clinton Larsen a new deal.

The Chilli Boys mentor took over the Chippa outfit at the beginning of 2019 after leaving Golden Arrows and found the Port Elizabeth-based club sitting in a dangerous position.

Following the departures of Joel Masutha, Eric Tinkler and Dan Malesela, Larsen then brought about stability to the team and steered Chippa to safety as they ended the season in 12th place on the PSL log.

Nonetheless, the 48-year-old has subsequently been rewarded with a new two-year deal for his efforts.

“Coach Clinton Larsen's contract extended for a further two year period,” a statement issued on Twitter read.

Furthermore, the Chippa owner has lavished praise on Larsen and hopes that this continuity will benefit the club in the long run.

“Chairman Chippa Mpengesi hailed him as great mentor and tactician. The extension of Clinton’s contract is important for continuity and the stability of the club,” the statement concluded.

Aside from Larsen guiding Chippa to a respectable league position, he was also influential on their road to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals where they were beaten by eventual runners-up Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, with Larsen’s future now secured, he is likely to turn his attention onto the 2019/20 season.

Chippa will hope to bolster their squad in order to be more competitive, while several players could make way.

Larsen has previously confirmed interest from the club in Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda Mntambo, and reports have also linked them with moves for Meshack Maphangule and Abel Mabaso.
