Bernard Morrison leaves Orlando Pirates, dismisses Chippa United reports

Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison has made it clear that he has not signed for Chippa United after parting ways with Orlando Pirates.

On Friday, Chippa announced that they had signed experienced full-back Thabo Matlaba, central midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni and Morrison from the Buccaneers.

Pirates also confirmed that Sangweni had returned to Chippa, but the Houghton-based side did not announce the depatures of both Matlaba and Morrison.

Matlaba is still with the Soweto giants having reportedly turned the opportunity to join the Chilli Boys, who were hoping to sign him ahead of the new 2018/19 season.

Morrison has since broken his silence on his proposed move to the Chilli Boys, referring to it as fake news.

“Let me start by saying many thanks to the chairman (Dr Irvin Khoza) and Orlando Pirates as a whole for opening up their home to me,” Morrison said.

“Lastly, let me clear the air about my move to ‘Chippa’. There hasn’t been any form of proper communication between my management and Chippa United. So, I don’t acknowledge their statements and allow me to say that’s fake news.(I have) not signed with Chippa United,” he added.

Morrison struggled to cement a regular spot in the Bucs starting line-up after joining the club from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants AS Vita Club two seasons ago.

The well-travelled forward made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Buccaneers and he hit the back of the net four times.
