Benjamin Turba charges Plateau United to build on current form

The Peace Boys midfielder has tasked his teammates to ensure they sustain their new form against the Pride of Rivers this weekend

Plateau United ‘s Benjamin Turba has urged his teammates to build on their new-found form when they trade tackles with Rivers United in Port Harcourt.

The reigning league champions have jumped to second in the league table after two consecutive home wins against Nasarawa United and Lobi Stars and the midfielder reckons that they need to sustain the momentum ahead of their weekend fixture with the Pride of Rivers.

“This will no doubt be a tough match in Port Harcourt but having done well in recent seasons at the same venue, I want to implore my teammates to ensure that we do not allow anything to distract us either before or during the match,” Turba told Goal.

“We won our last two matches and another impressive result against Rivers United will at least protect our current spot in the league table or even improve it. This is no time to be distracted because we need to be fully ready for our opponents.

“We were able to get a result there last season due to hard work and I believe it is still possible for us to surprise them this time around. It won’t be easy because Rivers United are also eager to move further up the league ladder but we must concentrate on doing what we can do to make it impossible for them to achieve that.”

The midfielder also spoke about their plans to ensure that they lift the league title again at the end of the season just like they did last season even when nobody gave them a chance.

“We had some hitches at the beginning of the season due to our participation in the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup and this affected our league position because we had to pile up our outstanding matches,” Turba continued.

“It was no easy periods for us at all but we were able to pull through. Though many thought that was our end we believe in our aspirations and these help us to remain resolute and we have been rewarded with improved performances in recent matches.”
