'Barca humiliation doesn't totally tarnish PSG appeal' - Mbappe reveals attraction to Ligue 1 rivals

Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe has revealed his attraction to Paris Saint-Germain, stating their Champions League embarrassment at the hands of Barcelona has not dented their status amongst Europe's elite.

Ligue 1 champions PSG had held a commanding 4-0 advantage against Barcelona from the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, but Unai Emery's men conspired to surrender the return leg 6-1 and therefore bow out in humiliating fashion.

That abject performace, along with the fact that Les Parisiens - who have won four French titles in a row - currently lie three points behind Monaco in the domestic table, has sparked talk that their winning cycle is over.

But Mbappe, who is a sought-after target after impressing with his performances this term, believes talk of PSG's downfall is vastly exaggerated and added that the club are very much still a force to be reckoned with.

"PSG are one of the greatest clubs in Europe," the teenage striking senstation told Telefoot on the back of Monaco's 4-1 mauling at the hands of Emery's men in the Coupe de la Ligue final on Saturday. 

"They are in the top six in the world, I think. Is it an attractive club? Of course.

"Their image has been a little bit tarnished after their defat to Barcelona, but the players are still the same. They are still here. The same ones that have made Ligue 1 suffer so much.

"They are great players and they are at a turning point of their project. We will see what they will do, we'll stay tuned."

Mourinho's blame game distracts from his own failings

In contrast to PSG, Monaco are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.

And Mbappe insists his team-mates are starting to believe in becoming kings of Europe after they saw off Manchester City in impressive fashion the previous round.

"If we can win the Champions League? We are in the quarter finals and we kicked City out," he concluded. "Of course [winning it] is possible. If everybody gives 100 per cent, it's possible."
