West Ham United ace Andre Ayew is delighted by his match-winning impact as West Ham secured their first three points of the Premier League campaign on Monday.
A 64th minute substitute, the 27-year-old scored his first goal of the season and assisted another to ensure a 2-0 home victory over Huddersfield Town at London Stadium.
“We are happy for the manager, for the fans and for ourselves,” Ayew said, as reported by his club’s official website.
“We are players, we are a team and we are together. Times were tough, but we needed to stick together and work hard as a team to make it happen.
“We’ve got the first points, so let’s work hard and try to get more.”
It was relief in every way for Ayew.
West Ham had gone without a win after three rounds of games, his trip on international duty ended in a disappointing home draw with Congo and an injury.
To make things worse, he dropped to the bench for the first time in the Premier League this season in Monday’s fixture.
“It was a good win and an important one for us, so I’m very happy to have won this game and hopefully it will give us a lot of confidence for the next games,” the Ghana international added.
“I just had to come on and do my job, to do something. I went away to international duty and came back, I had a little injury but I managed to be on the sheet to play and managed to get in and get a goal.
“It was good because it’s important for a player to score early in the season to help their confidence, so we can build on this victory and get more victories in the future.”
Having netted six times for West Ham last season, Ayew will hope to get on the scoresheet again, and hopefully back to Slaven Bilic’s starting XI, in Saturday’s away clash with West Bromwich Albion.
