A goal on each half of the game from Hans Kwoffie and Samed Ibrahim did the job for coach C.K Akunnor as the season moves to the boiling point.
The Miners came into the game on the back of two successive defeats in their bid to avoid the drop and were without centre-back Abeiku Ainooson, who was suspended for accumulated yellow cards.
Wafa on the other hand, were without first-choice goalkeeper Razak Abalora, after the 20-year-old joined Tanzanian giants Azam in a three-year deal on Saturday. His place was taken by former Techiman City shot-stopper Richmond Ayi, as the youngster made his first league start for the Sogakope-based club.
The hosts had the first opportunity by the fifth minute but despite Theophilus Nyame controlling the ball very well with his first touch, the former Kotoko midfielder saw his effort float wide.
Komla Agbeniadan, Richard Danso and Jamal Haruna, who were leading the attack for Wafa, caused a lot of troubles for the hosts' back-four with Agbeniadan in particular, being very difficult to handle.
The Togolese international tested goalkeeper George Owu on several occasions and wasn't fortunate to find the back of the net but it was Ashanti Gold, who finally found the breach in Wafa's defence by the 36th minute through Hans Kwoffie.
Tijani Joshua combined with Nyame but the latter's last ditch effort was blocked before Kwoffie fired from the rebound outside the box for the opener.
After the break, Ashanti Gold continued piling pressure on the visitors. Klavs Rasmussen's fell behind once again just two minutes into the second half. Samed rose above his marker and headed home Roland Amuzu's corner-kick.
With more than forty minutes remaining, Wafa resorted to a 3-4-3 formation to push more men upfront in search of a consolation and subsequently equaliser but Ashanti Gold were resolute and kept their calm to end the month of July with a priceless victory.
Ashanti Gold have now moved two places up to 12th position with 31 points while Wafa remain in second position with 43 points, one point behind Aduana Stars but have one game in hand against Asante Kotoko.
