As South Africa prepare for their clash with Paraguay on Tuesday in a Nelson Mandela Challenge encounter, former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia says the 1996 African champions will definitely benefit from the match.

The clash which is set to be staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium will celebrate the late Nelson Mandela's 100th year birthday and Heredia believes the South Americans are not different from an African opposition, but they are a top quality side.

“I think this is a wonderful opportunity for the team to face Paraguay. There is no doubt about their quality and when you talk about top countries in South American football,” Heredia told Goal.

Having previously met top teams such as Brazil and England in the Nelson Mandela Challenge, South Africa will meet La Albirojja for the first time.

“They are definitely one of the best among the likes of Argentina, Brazil and Chile. They are a powerhouse in South America. It will be a very tough opponent, but I think Bafana can match them,” added the coach.

Despite playing to a 1-1 draw against Nigeria on Saturday afternoon in their penultimate 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the experienced coach reckons coach Stuart Baxter's men will learn a lot from the clash.

"They are a tough opponent, but not really different from African opposition. You know the Latin Americans are similar to Africans when it comes to football style,” continued the Argentine.

“They keep and play the ball on the floor, use speed. Of course, Bafana will learn a lot and this opponent will also help to build and shape our football,” said.

“The players will get an opportunity to play against one of the top teams and that is priceless," he concluded.

Following a disappointing stalemate against the Super Eagles at the FNB Stadium, Baxter will hope to lead his men to a victory as they return to the iconic venue, in Durban.
