Silva was replaced by Raheem Sterling after just 22 minutes following a tackle from behind by Gabriel.

Aguero lasted until extra-time after being kicked in the back by Laurent Koscielny during the first half, with City boss Pep Guardiola later saying he was "dead" from the collision.

But both men were part of City's light recovery session on Monday and club sources are hopeful both will be fit to take on Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium later this week.

Fernandinho was also taken off during extra-time but there it is thought the Brazilian was suffering a minor problem which should not rule him out of the derby.

Real Madrid cannot wait for Messi to retire

Guardiola had suggested in the build-up to Sunday's game that Gabriel Jesus could make the starting XI, only for the striker to miss out altogether.

later claimed that the 20-year-old had only completed one training session prior to the match.

Should both he and Aguero be fit for the derby, Guardiola will have to decide whether to start the Brazilian from the off, as had been the case earlier in the season before he broke a bone in his foot.
