Azmi Mohamed made his name in the 1990s as a lethal striker who possesses clinical finishing during his playing days in the Malaysian League. He was also part of the original "Barcelona Babes 1992" squad alongside Azman Adnan, Ong Kim Swee, and Shahrin Majid.
However, little is known about his coaching credentials as the 42-year-old has had just two years of management experience with Johor United. Goal spoke exclusively to Azmi to get his thoughts on his recent appointment.
"I am honoured to coach this great team but I am fully aware of the huge responsibilities that come with the job," he said.
While Azmi is the new Head Coach, assistant coach Ismail Ibrahim, goalkeeping coach Khairul Azman Mohamad and fitness coach Azmi Ibrahim have all retained their jobs.
The former striker also expressed his content at the determination displayed by his charges.
"I have overseen three days of training sessions so far and I am pleased with what I saw.
"These players have shown great commitment and I hope to reach the goal of winning a silverware with Darul Takzim this season," he enthused.
Former Atletico Madrid and Valencia coach Cesar Fernando Jiminez will take over the reigns from Azmi Mohamed next year.
Luck certainly favours Johor Darul Takzim as the Southern Tigers escaped the "Group of Death" and have been drawn in Group B with Felda United, PKNS FC, T-Team.
