In a Asian Football Confederation (AFC) event held on Tuesday afternoon in Kuala Lumpuer, it was revealed who Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Felda United will face in the 2017 AFC Cup competition.
JDT qualified for the competition by virtue of being the 2016 Super League champions while Felda got through as they finished runnersup in the same competition. Last season, JDT managed to get to the semi-final stage before being knocked out by Bengaluru FC.
For the 2017 campaign, JDT are placed in Group F together with Magwe (Myanmar), Global (Philippines) and the winner in the playoff between Bouengket Angkor (Cambodia) and Lao Toyota (Laos).
As for Felda, they will have Ha Noi T&T (Vietnam), Tampines Rovers (Singapore) and Ceres (Philippines) for companny in Group G in what will be their maiden campaign in the regional cup competition.
There's a chance that Kedah could be involved in the virtue but the team is on standby, depending on the outcome of JDT's participation in the AFC Champions League. The reigning league champions will take on Bangkok United in January to decide who will play Japan's 4th club in the final playoff before getting a spot in the group stage.
Should JDT managed to navigate through those to playoffs, glamour ties against the Adelaide United (Australia), Jiangsu FC (China) and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (South Korea) awaits them.
