Malaysia head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has confirmed that injured Perak midfielder Nasir Basharuddin will not be picked for the 23-man Malaysia squad for the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup.

The 26-year old player has not been able to shake off his groin injury, and Kim Swee said that he looks likely to be one of the three players dropped from the current 26-player training camp squad before they leave for Myanmar.

"Nasir has an injury on his groin, and the doctor has scanned him and confirmed a slight abdominal tear. Another scan will be performed tomorrow (Wednesday) to determine the extent of that injury.

"Based on the situation right now, it's very, very difficult for him to get back (to fitness) on time," said Kim Swee before the national team training session on Tuesday.

However the 45-year old coach will not be calling another player to replace Nasir, as he feels that the selection he has left in the camp are capable of replacing the midfielder.

"If that's the case... I won't call anymore players, it's only one week left before we depart, so I believe with these 25 players, it's a matter of another two players.

"We have Irfan [Fazail], [S.] Veenod, we have Amri [Yahyah] who can play in that position, we have Fakri [Saarani]. I don't see it as a major problem, (although) of course it's another gap to think about the midfield," explained Kim Swee.
