For the 23,000 fans in the stadium, it was a moment they wouldn’t want to forget.
As JDT fielded their reserve team, Perak outfoxed their opponents when they beat them 3-0 in the Group C match of the Malaysia Cup campaign.
Two goals from Fazrul Hazli and a goal from Xhevahir Sukaj were enough to sink JDT, who looked devoid of ideas throughout the match.
Perak went all the way in the first-half as they sensed they could capitalise on a second string JDT side.
JDT who did not start their star players like Safiq Rahim, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Juan Manuel Lucero, Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak and Marcos Antonio looked devoid of ideas as Perak capitalised the possession.
Perak got their first chance in the ninth minute when Oybek Kilichev’s pass found Nasir Basharuddin but a challenge from Dominic Tan Jun Jin couldn’t allow the Perak captain to take a clean shot at goal.
Six minutes later, Perak got their first goal when D. Kenny Pallraj intercepted a weak defensive clearance from Dominic and passed to Albanian striker Xhevahir Sukaj, whose left foot shot was too strong for JDT’s goalkeeper Farizal Marlias.
Johor tried to mount a fight back but a meek effort from Amirulhadi Zainal off a corner in 18th minute failed to threaten Perak’s goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim.
Sukaj continued to threaten JDT’s defence and in one particular moment, his strong left-footed volley in the 24th minute was just fractions off the bar.
Frustrated by Perak’s lead, some off JDT players lost their cool and had several altercations with the Perak player but match referee Mohd Zamzaidi Katimin was able to control the players.
Losing their tactical disicipline, JDT conceded another goal in the 42nd minute when Fazrul Hazli’s half-volley from outside the box beat Farizal to give Perak a 2-0 lead.
In the second-half, some of the JDT players showed their ‘Jekyll’ side as Mohd Hasbullah Abu Bakar got a yellow card in the 47th minute for a last man challenge on Sukaj but 61st minute was a moment to forget for one player.
S. Chanturu, who cut a forlorn figure on the right wing was sent-off by Zamzaidi after he slapped Perak’s Brazilian defender Thiago Junio Aquino, who fell down theatrically after the slap.
Perak capitalised on the 10-man advantage when Fazrul scored his second goal of the match in the 65th minute when he received a through ball from the impressive from Kenny to slot the ball past a hapless Farizal.
Perak held on to their victory and now they are second with six points while JDT remain in third with three points.
JDT will look to exact revenge on Perak when they will face the northern side again in Ipoh for the Super League campaign on August 6.
