A daunting task awaits Malaysia as they have been drawn in Group D in the competition, along with reigning champions Japan, 2015 AFF Futsal Championship runners up Australia, as well as Qatar. Only the top two teams will qualify for the quarter finals.

The team will leave for the host country, Uzbekistan this Friday, and will first take on Under 23 Uzbekistan and Iraq in test matches.

In the competition, Malaysia will face Australia on February 11, Japan on Feb 13, and Qatar on Feb 15.

In the announcement, Selpa was quoted as admitting the tough task his boys are facing, and he explained the need to do the unthinkable in their opening match, against Australia.

"Group D is a tough group for us and the first match against Australia (February 11) is like a final match, and we have to work hard to get the win.

"The team's confidence to go further in the championship will surely increase then," said the coach.
