Pahang Football Associaton have decided that they will not renew the contract of the English coach after three months with the team.

According to Astro Arena, there is no confirmation yet for who will replace Smith, however rumours are spreading that Malaysian legend Zainal Abiddin Hassan will be promoted.

Despite making it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup this year, the same stage that they reached last season, two wins out of five games in the Super League this season has proved costly for Smith and is the primary reason why his contract will not be renewed.

Pahang, who won the Malaysia Cup last season, did not perform to their potential with the outgoing coach seemingly unable to decide upon his best eleven, and players not being able to adapt their style of play with the tactics set up by Smith.

Pahang are set to face Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) once again in the FA Cup semi-finals, as they seek for revenge after losing to them at the same stage last season.

In the Malaysia Super League, their last game was a defeat to Terengganu, their third defeat of the season.  This means that they are currently 9th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone.
