2014 LionsXII squad list announced

The FAS has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming MSL season, seven of which have been drafted in from S.League clubs
A day after appointing former national captain Nazri Nasir as the assistant coach for LionsXII, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has announced a 24-man squad for the 2014 Malaysian Super League (MSL) season.

The team comprises a good mix of players from the previous LionsXII squad and seven players who have been drafted in from S.League clubs.

Afiq Yunos, Raihan Rahman, Emmeric Ong, Ignatius Ang and Samuel Benjamin have all made the step-up from Courts Young Lions to LionsXII, while Khairul Amri and Sufian Anuar have made the switch from Tampines Rovers and Warriors FC respectively.

Apart from Amri, Sufian and Isa Halim, the entire squad is aged 23 and below.

New LionsXII head coach Fandi Ahmad expressed his optimism ahead of the 2014 MSL season.

“I am pleased to have a strong squad that combines experience and youthful energy,” Fandi said.

“A number of these players participated in international friendly matches and tournaments and now at the SEA Games, and they will certainly add a lot of invaluable experience and resilience to the squad.

“The young players will be able to learn from their seniors, which is essential to their long-term development that will eventually benefit the squad in our challenge for top honours.

“I have absolute confidence in this squad’s strength and commitment and I hope to do my part in developing these young players to the next level.”
The team will kick off the new campaign with the Charity Shield match against Pahang on 17 January 2014, and full fixtures will be announced at a later date.
