Burmese out for revenge in Merdeka Tournament final

Myanmar U23 team manager Thin Mynt Aun looks to exert revenge against Malaysia U23 in the Merdeka Tournament final after losing 2-1 in the second round

After qualifying for the Merdeka Tournament final, Myanmar Under-23 have revenge on their cards when they face Malaysia Under-23 on Saturday.

Burmese team manager Thin Mynt Aun sat alongside his captain Khaw Zayar Win at the pre-match press conference as he told reporters his agenda for the cup final.

He said: “We want revenge [against Malaysia] and I hope [my] players will give their best.”

Going into the final, Myanmar will have their full squad and look to welcome back the likes of Kyi Lin, who was suspended after picking up a red card in the second round tie, also versus Malaysia.

Mynt Aun also highlighted that as hosts of the upcoming 2013 SEA games in December, the tournament is a medium for experiment for the regional competition.

“This tournament is an experiment for the SEA Games [but] it is also important for the players to control their emotions at all times.

“They must be patient and not get frustrated at the referee too much,” he added.

Myanmar skipper Zayar Win also has a game plan to beat Malaysia and it is one where he doesn’t underestimate anyone.

“We are ready to win tomorrow and we can't focus on any individual players.

“We must focus on the whole team,” Zayar Win highlighted.

Myanmar U23 will take on Malaysia U23 at the Darul Makmur Stadium at 8.45pm.

The third/fourth place playoff will feature Singapore U23 and the Thailand Selection in an earlier kickoff of 5.30pm in the same venue.
