"Effa Owona needs to work harder," - Terengganu head coach E. Elavarasan

The former Negeri Sembilan forward has failed to find the net in their first two games so far, and head coach Elavarasan admitted that Owona has to work harder
Jean Emmanuel Effa Owona was an enthralling figure in the Malaysian Super League last year, netting 15 goals to finish as top scorer. However, the ex-Negeri Sembilan striker hasn't quite been the deadly forward with Terengganu this year.

Terengganu opened their Super League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Felda United last Tuesday, before battling through a stalemate against Negeri Sembilan on Friday. The Cameroon striker has had a few key opportunities in both matches, but failed to find the net.

"Owona lacks sharpness in front of goal so he has to work on that aspect. It is my job as a coach to get him to score goals," Elavarasan told the New Straits Times

The Turtles have yet to secure a win thus far, especially after firing blanks against Negeri Sembilan. However, Elavarasan insisted that there were positives to be taken from that match.

When we started the game, we were not quite settled down. It took us 20 minutes to settle down but even then we were not playing our usual game.

"Only in the second half, we were more organised but we failed to take our chances and that was the difference (between a win and a draw)," said Elavarasan.

Terengganu will next take on Selangor at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu next Tuesday.
