Sarawak have closed the deal on Joel Epalle who they hope would be the answer for their lack of bite up-front. The news was revealed by his agent Jules Denis Onana.
The Cameroonian player who has 31 caps for his country has played in the Bundesliga with VfL Bochum, and in the Greek league with Panathinaikos. He is largely anticipated to feature in this weekend's Malaysian Super League (MSL) game against Kelantan as approval for his signing from Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is in the works.
Epalle showed his class when he scored Sarawak's equaliser in the match against a Malaysian selection two weeks ago, and has gained immediate fame for his accurate passing and vision on the pitch.
Apart from announcing the news of his signing, Onana also promised that World Cup player Epalle will deliver for Sarawak, as he bagged a goal for Sarawak despite his jetlag having traveled from Paris to Kuching just two days prior to the game against Malaysia.
He further claimed that Epalle will be able to guide the younger players in Sarawak to mature and develop as Epalle has vast experience in football.
Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts was also optimistic about Epalle, as Utusan Sarawak quoted him saying: "A Guy Bwele-Epalle partnership will be definitely be a threat to any team playing against Sarawak."
Epalle has huge responsibility to shoulder when he starts playing for Sarawak as Alberts has shown he expects a lot from a foreign player. Record shows that Alberts is not afraid to axe a player for the good of Sarawak as he had only just recently dropped Croatian Vedran Muratovic for underperforming.
