Liverpool climbed to second place in the English Premier League on the night where Luis Suarez made his return to the competition after a 10-match ban.

Daniel Sturridge was upbeat for the Reds and was involved in all three goals for side.

He netted the first and turned provider for Liverpool’s other two that saw Suarez securing a brace on his return, which made him the clear choice for the Man of the Match.

The Uruguayan hadn’t been playing for quite awhile and one would have expected him to slowly ease into match-fitness but that wasn’t the case.

Not only did Suarez display his attacking prowess by netting two goals - one in each half - he was very involved in defending from the front, hassling defenders in midfield and at times winning possession of the ball.

The new partnership of Suarez and Sturridge look to be a very potent one as the two of them freely exchange passes in the final third in their hunt for goals.

If not for Sunderland’s impressive defending, Suarez could have easily bagged another two goals seeing how he was running rampant around the Black Cats’ backline.

With a commanding second place in the league table and a potent strike force, Liverpool could very well be strong title contenders this season.
