Liverpool director of communications Jen Chang has left the club by mutual consent.

Chang has been on temporary leave at his family home in New York following the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in October, and will now not return to his role at the Premier League side.

A Reds spokesman told "I can confirm Jen Chang has left Liverpool football club by mutual consent and has returned to the United States for family reasons.”

The former Sports Illustrated senior editor for football-related content joined the Merseyside outfit as the club's corporate and relations communications director in June 2012.

“Jen bought a fresh perspective to the overall communications function through the use of a variety of media channels, including social media and blogs," a statement provided to the Liverpool Echo continued.
