Kedah on Monday announced their loan signing of Thiago Augusto Fernandes from Felda United until the end of the season, with Malaysia striker Ahmad Fakri Saarani going the other way on a similar deal and for the same duration.
They had reportedly been interested in the Brazilian since he returned from a long-term injury, which had caused the Fighters to deregister him from their competition squad at the start of this season while he recovered, but the deal initially fell through because Felda head coach Irfan Bakti had then wanted his service.
In the meantime the Red Eagles had been trialing two foreign strikers as striker Carlos Kahe's replacement.
However early Monday StadiumAstro.com reported that Irfan has decided against registering Thiago after all, as that would require one of their four foreign players, who have all performed well this season including Thiago's last-minute replacement Francis Doe, to be dropped, and Irfan did not want to risk disrupting the team's stability.

The report also added that Thiago's return to the squad had hinged on their offer to sign JDT defender Junior Eldstal, but their offer had gone unanswered by the Southern Tigers, which ultimately made the Brazilian a surplus to Irfan's squad.
Thiago's signing also means that Kahe's departure from Kedah is imminent.
