Pulau Pinang hero Merzagua Abderrazak close to returning

The Panthers are reportedly close to signing their former player and the same coach who lifted them out of the third division, Moroccan striker Merzagua Abderrazak.

It has been rumoured that former Penang player and head coach Merzagua Abderrazak is close to returning to the island side, as its head coach.

Sources close to the team are saying that he will sign with the team, pending some paperwork.

The headcoach post at the side has been vacant since Wednesday, after Tiago Jacksen was given a gardening leave due to the side's poor performance this season. The post is temporarily held by assistant head coach Manzoor Azwira.

Merzagua played for the Panthers in the late 90's during their more succesful years, and returned to coach the side and lift them out of the FAM Cup (then FAM League) doldrums in 2013.

However after the success, the Morrocan had to vacate his post as he did not have the coaching license required for the second division.

However he has since obtained the license, and in 2015 he was reported to be coaching another Pulau Pinang-based FAM Cup side, Sungai Ara FC.
