Commentary

That's all for today, goodbye!
Arsenal stay in top spot, two points clear of Manchester City. They couldn't extend their winning run, but they are unbeaten in nine outings. They travel to PSV next time out in the Europa League. Southampton drop to 15th due to Aston Villa's win, but they're now unbeaten in three games. They face Crystal Palace next weekend.
Arsenal draw their first game this season, with Southampton holding them to a 1-1 draw. The Gunners made a bright start to the game and led after just 11 minutes when Xhaka fired into the roof of the net from close range. Bazunu also made some great saves to deny Xhaka and Jesus. Southampton were the better side in the second half though, and Stuart Armstrong coolly slotted home to earn them a deserved point. Odegaard thought he'd won it late on, but the ball rolled out of play in the build-up.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 1-1 ARSENAL.
90' + 5' Arsenal have a late chance to put it in the box through Partey's long throw-in and Gabriel does get his head on it at the near post, but he can only flick it over the bar.
Lyanco
Yellow Card
Southampton
90' + 3' Lyanco is brought down by Nketiah and squares up to the substitute as he wasn't happy with the challenge. The Brazilian is booked for his reaction.
90' + 2' Vieira's sloppy pass is well recovered by Tierney, but then Arsenal gift it back to Southampton again. Adams curls in a cross from the left which Elyounoussi nods back across goal towards Walcott, but Gabriel intercepts.
90' + 1' Into five minutes of added time here, and Arsenal have a free-kick. Vieira takes it short to Xhaka before getting it back, but he curls his cross straight to Ward-Prowse.
T. Walcott
Yellow Card
Southampton
89' Walcott knocks it past Gabriel with a heavy touch before realising he won't reach it. He throws himself to the floor in an obvious dive and is booked for it.
88' Vieira's attempted clearance hits Adams and bounces down the left for Perraud to chase. He was standing in an offside position though, and the flag goes up before he can pick out a cross.
86' Edozie does brilliantly to hold off Xhaka long enough to get the ball under control before touching it out to Walcott down the right. He swings a cross in and Edozie ducks thinking a team-mate is behind him, but that allows Gabriel to clear his lines.
84' Lyanco is down with what looks like a muscle problem, and the physio is on to see to him. He's quickly back to his feet after treatment though, and he'll be able to carry on.
Fábio Vieira
M. Ødegaard
Arsenal
83' Arsenal's third change sees Vieira come on in place of Odegaard.
82' WIDE! Odegaard has Diallo tight to him, but he manages to thread it into the box for Nketiah. He spins before drilling a low shot across goal, and a slight deflection off Lyanco helps it wide of the far post.
S. Edozie
S. Armstrong
Southampton
80' Third change for Southampton now and it's the goalscorer, Armstrong, that's taken off for Edozie.
79' NO GOAL! Tierney gets away from Elyounoussi down the left and pulls it back from the byline. Odegaard is unmarked on the penalty spot and meets it first time, rifling it past Bazunu, but the ball went out of play before the cross, and it won't count!
77' More big shouts for a penalty from the Arsenal players and fans as Tierney goes down holding his neck. They're claiming he was elbowed, but the referee allows play to carry on as Southampton break.
75' Southampton are still causing Arsenal issues with their high press and the visitors have to play it back to Ramsdale. Walcott is bearing down on him, but the keeper clears his lines in time.
T. Walcott
A. Armstrong
Southampton
73' And Walcott comes on to face his former team in place of Adam Armstrong.
C. Adams
J. Aribo
Southampton
73' There's also a double change for Southampton as well. Aribo makes way for Adams.
K. Tierney
B. White
Arsenal
72' And White is also taken off and replaced by Tierney, which means that Tomiyasu will shift across to right-back.
E. Nketiah
Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal
71' Arsenal are making the first changes of the game. Martinelli is the first to go off, with Nketiah on in his place.
70' SAVE! Southampton's confidence has soared since that goal, and Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong link up well down the left to pick out Aribo. He drills a low shot across goal from a tight angle, but it's straight at Ramsdale.
69' Odegaard is caught on the ball this time, and Stuart Armstrong touches it out to Perraud on the left. Southampton have three in the middle, but his cross is blocked by White.
67' CHANCE! Southampton aren't sitting back here as they look to quickly put themselves ahead. Elyounoussi's cross is over everyone in the middle, but Perraud brings it down on the far side before flashing his shot wide of the post.
M. Elyounoussi
Assist
Southampton
65' Elyounoussi's pass is played between Tomiyasu and Gabriel, taking the defenders out of the game, allowing Stuart Armstrong the space to shoot.
S. Armstrong
Goal
Southampton
65' STUART AMSTRONG EQUALISES! Aribo lets the throughball run through to Perraud, who squares it to Elyounoussi. His reverse pass between Tomiyasu and Gabriel picks out Armstrong, who coolly slots it past Ramsdale into the back of the net. 1-1!
64' Arsenal work it well through midfield with Partey feeding it through to Martinelli just outside the D. He's got a crowd of Southampton players ahead of him but still tries to squeeze it through to Jesus, only for Diallo to block it.
62' Arsenal are trying to regain their rhythm as they enjoy a spell of possession, but it's all in their own half, and they're struggling to get through Southampton's high press.
60' WHAT A BLOCK! Aribo is caught on the ball and Arsenal break forward on a lightning-quick counter. Odegaard slides it through to Jesus, who is one-on-one with the keeper when Elyounoussi gets back and slides in to send his shot wide.
58' Southampton are upping the pressure again here with Stuart Armstrong curling in a dangerous cross. He gets it through to Elyounoussi at the far post, but he can't react quick enough to poke it past Ramsdale.
57' Both Salisu and Gabriel are quickly back on their feet after receiving treatment, and they're okay to carry on.
56' During Southampton's latest corner, there was a clash of heads between Gabriel and Salisu. Both have stayed down and the medical teams are on to give them treatment.
54' Ramsdale goes long looking for Jesus, and he backs into Caleta-Car to hold him off. When the ball bounces away from him, he goes down claiming he was fouled, but doesn't get the free-kick he's searching for.
52' Xhaka makes another surging run down the left and he does well to get a yard on Caleta-Car to swing a cross in. There's no one there for Arsenal though and the hosts comfortably clear their lines.
50' It's a loose pass from Saliba as he gifts it straight to Adam Armstrong and he drives into the box. A poor touch on the edge of the box allowed Gabriel to step in, much to his team-mates' relief.
48' There are big shouts for a handball against Lyanco when Xhaka whips his cross into the box. His arm was tight to his side though and the referee waves for play to carry on.
46' Southampton get us back underway for the second half!
Arteta will be pleased with his side's performance in the first half - they put Southampton under a lot of pressure and arguably should have scored more. The Saints took a while to grow into the game, but have struggled to create chances, and Hasenhuttl might be thinking about making a change to help with that.
Xhaka's early goal gives Arsenal a 1-0 lead over Southampton at half-time. The Gunners made a bright start to the game, with Bazunu denying the Swiss midfielder and Odegaard firing just wide before the deadlock was broken. Xhaka was unmarked in the middle when he fired it into the roof of the net. Jesus also saw a shot well-saved by Bazunu just before the break.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-1 ARSENAL.
45' + 1' Martinelli is causing all sorts of problems down the left and he dribbles his way into the box before clipping in a cross from the byline. Perraud glances it away from Jesus, and White can't keep it in play on the far side.
44' GREAT SAVE! Xhaka's pass pinballs off Caleta-Car and Diallo before bouncing kindly through for Jesus in the middle of the box. He lets it bounce before hitting the volley and Bazunu smothers it from close range.
43' BLOCK! It's another lovely team move from Arsenal, starting with White down the left. Saka touches it into Odegaard, who cushions it into Jesus' path. He hits the shot first time, but Caleta-Car throws himself in front of it.
41' Tomiyasu's quick throw-in caught Southampton out and Martinelli puts a dangerous low cross into the six-yard box. Saka peels away to reach it at the far post, but he'd just drifted offside.
39' BLOCK! It's a wonderful weaving run from Martinelli as he cuts inside from the left, dribbling past four Southampton defenders to get to the edge of the D. He hits his shot back across goal, but a big deflection off Salisu sends it just wide of the near post.
37' A fourth corner in a row is swung in by Ward-Prowse and most of the players are crowded into the six-yard box. Again, it's a comfortable clearance for Arsenal, but Southampton are keeping the pressure on.
35' Ward-Prowse's corner is cleared as far as Stuart Armstrong, who hits the referee when he attempts to recycle it. He does get it in on the second attempt, but Adam Armstrong can only win another corner.
33' The Southampton fans think Arsenal are trying to waste time as Tomiyasu has now gone down after losing his boot. When the Saints' throw-in does go into the box, it's cleared at the near post by Partey.
31' Jesus has gone down off the ball, and he's claiming he got an elbow to the back for Lyanco. The Gunners striker isn't happy, but there wasn't a lot of contact from the defender. He's able to get back to his feet without needing treatment though.
B. Saka
Yellow Card
Arsenal
29' Saka was bursting into the box when Caleta-Car stuck out a leg to try and get the ball. He pulled out of the challenge and Saka went looking for the contact. He goes down and gets booked for diving.
27' Partey picks out Odegaard with another lovely throughball and his first touch loops away from him towards the penalty spot. Jesus tries to get his head to it, but it's just behind him.
25' MISS! Ward-Prowse's pass is cut out by Partey and Odegaard's first thought is to slide it through to Jesus. He wriggles away from Salisu, but it's a tight angle and he fires his shot into the side netting.
23' The hosts break quickly on the counter again, with Perraud finding space to run into down the left. He tries to whip an early cross into the box, but it's well blocked by Saliba.
21' Southampton win the first corner of the game and Ward-Prowse swings it into a very congested six-yard box. Ramsdale manages to flap a hand at it before Partey helps to clear it fully.
19' With four goals in all competitions, this is Xhaka's joint-best goalscoring season for Arsenal, while he's scored in back-to-back appearances for just the second time for the Gunners (also in September 2016).
17' It's still all Arsenal here as they continue to knock it around comfortably in midfield. Southampton are dropping deeper into their own half and making it difficult for them to get through.
15' Ward-Prowse steps in to cut out Odegaard's pass and it ends up being a good throughball for Aribo. He tries to slide it through to Adam Armstrong, but Gabriel makes an important interception just in front of him.
13' There are shouts from the Arsenal fans and players as Jesus takes a tumble in the box under pressure from Caleta-Car. There wasn't a lot in it though and the referee waves for play to carry on.
B. White
Assist
Arsenal
11' White burst past two Southampton defenders to get into the space he needed to pick out the cross.
G. Xhaka
Goal
Arsenal
11' XHAKA SCORES! It's been coming for Arsenal! White starts the move in his own half, playing the one-two with Saka to get away down the right. He squares it into the box and Xhaka is unmarked in the middle to hit the shot on the half-volley, firing it over Bazunu into the roof of the net. 1-0 Arsenal!
9' CLOSE! Arsenal are upping the pressure again here as Martinelli spins away from Lyanco to touch it into Xhaka. He pulls it back to Odegaard in space on the edge of the box, but his fizzed low shot is just wide of the far post.
7' GOOD SAVE! Martinelli plays a one-two with Partey as he cuts inside before slotting it through to Jesus. Salisu gets a toe to it to force him wide, but Xhaka shouts for him to leave it so he can rifle a first-time shot on goal. Bazunu gets down well to deny him.
6' It's Southampton's first real venture out of their own half as Stuart Armstrong picks out Lyanco in space down the right. He drives to the edge of the box before drilling a low shot on goal, but it's straight at Ramsdale.
4' Xhaka takes the free-kick short to Saka, and he drops a shoulder to lose Perraud before whipping a wonderful cross in. Gabriel is stretching to try and volley it past Bazunu, but it's just out of his reach.
2' GOOD SAVE! Arsenal are straight onto the front foot and White picks out Tomiyasu with a great switch to the left. He slides it through to Jesus, who keeps his shot low from the angle, and Bazunu smothers it just before the offside flag goes up.
1' Jesus gets the game underway for Arsenal!
The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away!
Following a 1-0 win in April, Southampton are looking to win consecutive Premier League games against Arsenal for only a second time, doing so previously in January and December 2015.
After making six changes for their Europa League win over PSV on Thursday, Mikel Arteta reverts back to the same team that held on to beat Leeds United 1-0 last weekend. Only Tomiyasu, Gabriel, Xhaka, Saka and Jesus played in both outings.
Hasenhuttl makes three changes to the side that beat Bournemouth in midweek, with Lyanco, Diallo and Stuart Armstrong all coming in. Despite scoring the winner in that game, Adams drops to the bench, while Kyle Walker-Peters misses out with a hamstring injury that forced him off. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ineligible to face his parent club.
ARSENAL SUBS: Rob Holding, Marquinhos, Kieran Tierney, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, Matt Turner, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Cedric Soares, Fabio Vieira.
ARSENAL STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Aaron Ramsdale; Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu; Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka; Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli; Gabriel Jesus.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Samuel Edozie, Juan Larios, Che Adams, Moussa Djenepo, Ryan Finnigan, Theo Walcott, Lewis Payne, Alex McCarthy, Sekou Mara.
SOUTHAMPTON STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Gavin Bazunu; Duje Caleta-Car, Lyanco, Mohammed Salisu, Romain Perraud; Ibrahima Diallo, James Ward-Prowse; Mohamed Elyounoussi, Joe Aribo, Stuart Armstrong; Adam Armstrong.
Arsenal currently sit one point clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, and they're looking to continue their eight-match winning run in all competitions to open up the four-point gap again. They qualified for the Europa League knockout stages on Thursday after beating PSV, and it was their third 1-0 victory in a row in all competitions. Southampton got a much-needed win against Bournemouth last time out to ease some of the pressure on Ralph Hasenhuttl. It ended a run of five without a victory (D1 L4) and marked their first clean sheet in the league this season.
