Liverpool's next Premier League game against Chelsea has been postponed, meaning the Reds will not be in action again until October 1 against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield. Ajax are on the road next time out in Eredivisie against AZ on Sunday.
Joel Matip's late header handed Liverpool their first win of the Champions League season with a 2-1 triumph over Ajax at Anfield. Mohamed Salah fired the Reds in front with his first Champions League goal in seven appearances, but Mohammed Kudus levelled the scores with a clinical finish. The home side applied pressure in the second half, but could not break down the Dutch outfit until Matip found the net in the 89th minute to secure the three points.
90' + 5' Tadic runs at Fabinho down the right flank, but the midfielder holds firm to force a goal-kick for the home side.
Stefan Bajčetić
Thiago Alcântara
90' + 4' Bajcetic comes onto the field for the closing seconds to replace Thiago.
J. Milner
L. Díaz
90' + 2' Milner replaces Diaz for the closing stages of the game.
S. Berghuis
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Berghuis goes into the book for a foul on Diaz.
K. Tsimikas
89' Tsimikas floats a perfect cross into the box for Matip to attack and score.
J. Matip
89' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! MATIP HEADS HOME!!!!!! 2-1 LIVERPOOL!!! Liverpool finally break down the Ajax rearguard in the second half as Matip rises and plants a header over the line, despite the best attempts of Tadic to keep it out. Matip connects with a cross from Tsimikas from the left flank, directing his attempt past Pasveer. And although Tadic heads it away, the ball clearly crosses the line with the referee receiving the signal on his watch.
88' OFF THE POST! Salah turns to fire from the right-inside channel and his effort strikes the thigh of Bassey. It loops over Pasveer, only to clip the outside of the left post.
B. Brobbey
M. Kudus
86' Brobbey replaces the goalscorer Kudus, whose clinical finish has put Ajax on course for a point.
85' CLOSE! Nunez finds space in the inside-left channel and he angles a strike across goal. However, Pasveer gets a touch to turn it away from goal and just past Diaz waiting for a tap-in at the back post.
83' CHANCE! Nunez has to score. Salah collects a pass from Firmino and sends an offload back inside to Nunez, but he pulls his strike inches wide of the left post.
F. Grillitsch
K. Taylor
80' Taylor makes way for the visitors in the middle of the park for Grillitsch.
79' Ajax are finding plenty of room on the counter. Bergwijn cuts in from the left flank and bends a cross to the back post that Alisson comes off his line to collec. The warning signs are there for the Reds.
78' Thiago turns into space and launches an effort at goal from 25 yards that sails into the hands of Pasveer.
77' Salah collects on the right flank and tries to feed Firmino, but the striker takes a poor first touch amid pressure from Blind and steers it behind for a goal-kick.
75' CLOSE! Ajax are inches from taking the lead. Tadic finds acres of space on the right flank and he lifts a cross to the back post that Blind attacks, but he places his effort a whisker past the post with Alisson beaten.
73' Liverpool win a corner down the right flank that Alexander-Arnold whips into the box, but Matip sends his header over the bar.
71' Kudus finds space behind the Liverpool defence from Tadic's throughball, but he sees his effort towards the near post blocked by Alisson. The flag goes up late against the forward anyway.
J. Sánchez
D. Rensch
68' Rensch is struggling for the visitors and is withdrawn from the pitch to be replaced by Sanchez.
67' Liverpool apply pressure but Matip and Van Dijk both fail to turn an effort towards goal before Matip plants a header wide of the target from Tsimikas' cross.
D. Núñez
Diogo Jota
66' Nunez replaces Jota in the final third as Liverpool add height and strength to the field.
Roberto Firmino
H. Elliott
66' Firmino enters the action to replace Elliott.
66' Diaz somehow keeps the ball alive on the left flank by knocking it past Rensch on the last blade of grass. He surges into the Ajax box, but sees his effort blocked behind by Timber.
64' Fabinho releases Salah in the box but he cannot bring the ball down amid pressure from Pasveer. Elliott takes a poor first touch and then hammers his effort into the side-netting from the rebound, although it's all moot anyway as Salah was offside.
63' Bassey does brilliantly at the near post to read the danger from Tsimikas' cross to clear it away from Jota on the charge. He had to make that intervention.
J. Matip
Yellow Card
62' Bergwijn turns away from Matip, forcing the defender to bring him down. Matip goes into the book.
61' Liverpool are dominating possession, but the Dutch side are being resilient at the back. There's no way through for the hosts at the moment.
60' Blind has to ward off Salah at the back post with a sliding challenge that deflects off the forward and behind for a goal-kick following a dangerous header from Van Dijk.
E. Álvarez
Yellow Card
59' Alvarez catches Jota with a late challenge and goes into the book.
56' Ajax are doing a good job of disrupting Liverpool's rhythm. Alvarez has been key in the middle of the park for the visitors.
54' Alexander-Arnold and Salah combine to tee up Elliott on the edge of the box, but he curls a tame strike into the hands of Pasveer.
51' OVER! Tsimikas floats a cross into the box from the resulting free-kick for Van Dijk to attack, but he plants his effort over the bar.
50' Timber brings down Jota down from behind after being sold short from Rensch. Liverpool have a free-kick in a useful position.
47' PENALTY SHOUT AND SAVE! Diaz loses out to Bergwijn down the right flank and it allows the Ajax winger to break. He feeds Kudus in the box, who goes down under pressure from Salah. The referee waves away Ajax's claims for a penalty and Liverpool counter. Jota finds space to roam in the Ajax half and goes for goal from the edge of the box, but Pasveer gets down to make the stop.
46' Elliott plays Tsimikas into space down the left flank, but Timber is on hand to direct his cross behind for a corner.
46' We're back under way at Anfield.
Liverpool have played well in the final third without being clinical. However, their recent defensive lapses have continued as Kudus was allowed to equalise from a simple move down the left flank. Although Liverpool have been improved going forward, Klopp will be urging caution at the back, especially given Ajax's performances of late in front of goal.
It's all square at the break in the Champions League clash between Liverpool and Ajax at Anfield. Mohamed Salah scored his first Champions League goal in seven appearances to put the Reds in front after 17 minutes. However, the home side spurned further openings and were duly punished when Mohammed Kudus equalised with a clinical strike on his left foot. Liverpool have been the better side, but the visitors will be satisfied with the scoreline.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
44' Van Dijk rises highest to attack a corner from Tsimikas from the left flank. He gets decent contact on his header, but nods it into the ground which takes the pace out of the effort and allows Pasveer to make a routine claim.
42' DOUBLE SAVE! Pasveer denies Alexander-Arnold twice in succession. Matip leads Liverpool out from the back by threading the needle to find Diaz, who in turn plays in Alexander-Arnold in the inside-right channel. He cuts back inside to shoot on his left foot, but his blast is saved by Pasveer before the Ajax keeper spreads himself to block the rebound behind.
40' Frustration for Liverpool as Fabinho is penalised for a high boot in a 50/50 challenge with Alvarez on the edge of the Ajax box.
38' Diaz has a run at Rensch down the left flank, but the defender does well to fend off the Liverpool winger and force the goal-kick.
37' Liverpool are continuing to press at the Ajax defence, but the visitors will not mind if it leaves space on the counter for them to expose.
35' SAVE! Pasveer produces a fine reaction stop to deny Van Dijk. Alexander-Arnold curls a cross into the box from the right flank from a corner where Van Dijk manages to wriggle free. He meets the cross with a diving header, but Pasveer gets down to his left to push it away.
33' Kudus puts the pressure on Alisson at the back and the Liverpool keeper has to scramble the ball away on the slide.
31' OVER! Alexander-Arnold collects 30 yards from goal and attempts a strike to nothing on the half-volley. His effort zips towards the target, but lacks the dip to travel under Pasveer's bar.
30' Rensch pulls the arm of Salah on the charge and hands Liverpool a free-kick in the final third.
29' Kudus has been involved in three of Ajax's five goals in this season's Champions League so far this season (two goals, one assist).
S. Berghuis
27' Berghuis makes the run behind Alexander-Arnold and then finds Kudus with a low pass into the box that the forward finishes in style.
M. Kudus
27' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! KUDUS EQUALISES WITH A CLINICAL FINISH!!!!! 1-1!!!!! Ajax make Liverpool pay for their missed chances as Kudus hammers home from close range. Blind sends Berghuis down the left flank with a precise pass and the midfielder produces a cutback into the box. Kudus collects and fires on the turn on his left foot, with the ball hammering off the underside of the bar.
25' CLOSE! Liverpool are all over Ajax now. Alisson sends Jota down the left flank with a brilliant kick out from the back. Jota speeds down the wing and places a dangerous cross towards the near post. Salah makes the run, but under pressure from Blind, he directs his effort wide of the target.
23' CHANCE! Thiago works a pass to Jota in space and he has time to pull the trigger on an effort from 20 yards. The Portuguese connects well with his strike, but it whistles wide of the left post.
22' INCHES WIDE! Diaz pounces on a loose clearance from the visitors after a Van Dijk header causes problems in the box. The Colombian takes aim on his right foot, only to drag his strike inches wide of the left post.
20' Salah has scored his first goal in the Champions League since February against Inter ending his longest goalless run in the competition (7 games).
19' OFFSIDE! Berghuis hits the bar with a left-footed strike, although the flag goes up late as he latches on to Taylor's deflected shot in the Liverpool box.
Diogo Jota
17' Jota holds his composure to release Salah with a pinpoint pass, which the forward converts.
Mohamed Salah
17' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! SALAH DRILLS LIVERPOOL AHEAD!!!! 1-0!!!!!! Jota finds Salah on this occasion and the forward makes no mistake burying his left-footed strike past Pasveer. Jota makes a good run and draws in defenders to open up space for Salah. He finds Salah with a good pass, allowing the Egypt international to take one touch before firing into the bottom-right corner.
16' Liverpool probe in the final third but Jota delays his offload to Salah and the forward is flagged offside, although Bassey makes the part-interception anyway.
14' Bergwijn has space to release Kudus behind the Liverpool defence, but he sends his pass straight at Van Dijk, who clears into touch.
13' Tsimikas loses out to Tadic and the winger breaks into the Liverpool box down the inside-right channel. He chips a pass towards Kudus, but Matip applies the pressure and forces the ball out for a goal-kick.
10' Liverpool have not started with a great intensity. They appear to be wary of committing too many men forward.
8' Alexander-Arnold whips the resulting free-kick into the middle, but it drifts away from Jota on the slide and out for a goal-kick.
8' Kudus handles the ball under pressure as he tries to ease the burden on his defence. Liverpool are awarded a free-kick in a useful position.
7' Salah tries to latch onto an offload from Alexander-Arnold in the box from a neat reverse. However, the forward cannot take it in stride and loses possession.
4' Tsimikas lines up a blast from the edge of the box after he collects a deflected cross, only to smash his effort over the top.
2' Salah makes a burst down the right flank and tries to slide a low ball into the box that Bassey clears away from danger.
1' We're under way at Anfield.
There will be a minute of silence ahead of kick-off in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

Alfred Schreuder has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the dugout after replacing Erik ten Hag and now has the opportunity to press home a place for the knockout stage with another positive result tonight. Ajax hammered Heerenveen in their last outing in Eredivisie on Saturday, sending out a warning to the Reds.
Liverpool were hammered 4-1 by Napoli in their opening Champions League Group A match on the road. Jurgen Klopp's side were rocked by the Italian outfit and are in dire need of a response tonight to get their campaign in Europe up and running. The Reds have a number of injury concerns, which has left their squad depleted. The cancellation of the Premier League at the weekend eased the workload, but Liverpool still need to come out firing on all cylinders tonight.
