Homeboyz have been a thorn in Ingwe’s flesh recently; winning two and drawing once in the last five matches. After assistant coach Marko Vasiljevic dropped two points in his first match last weekend, many expected AFC Leopards to pick themselves up, but Homeboyz did what they know best; humiliating Ingwe at the Bukhungu stadium.
New signing Peter Thiong’o inspired Homeboyz to the win - scoring the opening goal before setting up the other two. A theatric Thiong’o ripped apart Leopards defence to fire past Jairus Adira then set Maxwell Avela for a second before repeating the same by pulling another assist for George Mandela.
AFC Leopards almost equalized in the dying minutes of the first half, but a determined Homeboyz held on to deny the visitors from coming back into the game. AFC Leopards suffered an injury blow when assistant captain Isaac Oduro limped off the pitch with Salim Abdallah coming on to replace him.
Maxwell Avela doubled Homeboyz advantage in the 66th minute after a lovely play. Andika dropped a long ball that fell on Allan Wanga’s head onto the light legs of Thiong’o, who had only one touch before setting Avela to slot home his second goal of the season for Homeboyz.
Once against Thiong’o was involved in the third goal after he set free Mandela to fire home past Andika. This was the second consecutive time that Ingwe have dropped point having played to a 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Shark in the first match.
Assistant coach Vasiljevic will be demanding for results in the next game before the ever impatient Ingwe fans start a campaign to push him out. In the other matches of the day, Chemelil Sugar picked their maiden point of the season in a 1-1 draw against Vihiga United at the Chemelil Sports Complex.
Wangulu Gilbert's scored late into the second half to cancel out Vincent Wonder’s opener for Vihiga United in the 17th minute.
