Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes

That brings an end to our coverage of the Europa League quarter-final first-leg clash between Granada and Manchester United at Nuevo Los Carmenes. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
Before these two sides meet again on April 15th, Granada travel to face Valladolid in their next La Liga outing. United, on the other hand, will hope to continue their good form against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
At the end of a closely-contested match, Manchester United claim a 2-0 victory over Granada at Nuevo Los Carmenes. The away side started on the front foot and got the breakthrough on 31 minutes through Rashford, who collected Lindelof’s lofted throughball before finding the bottom-right corner. Solskjaer’s team looked to be heading for a one-goal win, but Fernandes secured the victory and extended United’s advantage from the spot four minutes from time after he was impeded by Eteki. The Red Devils take two vital away goals back to Old Trafford for the second leg.
90' + 2' Roma have now taken the lead at Johan Cruyff Arena. Ibanez has scored the Italian side’s second away goal.
90' There will be four minutes of added time at the end of this match.
Bruno Fernandes
Penalty Goal
Manchester United
90' GOOAAALLL! United double their lead! Fernandes steers his spot-kick towards the bottom-left corner and, despite getting a hand to it, Silva is unable to keep it out. The Granada goalkeeper should have done better there. 2-0.
Y. Eteki
Yellow Card
89' Eteki is booked for that foul on Fernandes.
89' PENALTY! Minutes after coming on, Eteki is adjudged to have obstructed Fernandes’ run into the box following Telles' cross from the left, and the referee points to the spot. VAR have confirmed the decision and the Portuguese midfielder will take it...
L. Suárez

81' Lindelof attempts another long, searching pass beyond the hosts’ defence. Telles was overlapping down the left, but Diaz was alert to the danger and dealt with the threat.
79' The Red Devils are in complete control of the possession at present. Granada have dropped deeper into their own half, but United have not been able to create any clear-cut opportunities in the second half.
77' Telles swings an inviting cross in from the left flank, which somehow evades everyone in the middle. Cavani was looking to get on the end of the delivery but did not throw himself at it.
D. Machís
75' It is a double change for the home side, as Machis comes on for Kenedy.
D. Foulquier
Carlos Neva
74' Martinez makes his second alteration of the match. Foulquier enters the fray in place of Neva.
N. Matić
P. Pogba
Manchester United
74' As we approach the closing stages, the Manchester United manager replaces Pogba with Matic.
H. Maguire
Yellow Card
Manchester United
72' Maguire gets the wrong side of Soldado and concedes a needless free-kick down the right flank after holding back the attacker. He picks up a yellow card, and will also miss the return leg in Manchester.
71' The winner of this two-legged tie will face either Ajax or Roma in the semi-finals. Currently, it is 1-1 between the two sides at Johan Cruyff Arena.
69' Neva lifts a hopeful cross towards the edge of the visitors’ box, which Herrera gathers before firing an on-the-turn shot over the bar.
67' SAVE! Kenedy seeks to drive the home side up the field and goes for goal from range. The Brazilian’s left-footed drive stays low, making it a comfortable save for De Gea.
E. Cavani
M. Rashford
Manchester United
66' With 24 minutes of normal time left to play, Solskjaer makes his second substitution of the match, bringing on Cavani for Rashford. It remains 1-0.
64' Greenwood picks the ball up just outside the hosts box and looks to float a cross into the area from the inside-left channel. Vallejo watches the delivery and nods it clear.
62' OVER! The Red Devils are building patiently, and Wan-Bissaka wins a corner to the right of Neva. Fernandes’ delivery is met by Pogba, although the Frenchman is unable to keep his header down.
60' Since his debut for Manchester United in February 2016, Rashford has scored 87 goals in all competitions. That tally is 19 more than any other player for the club in that time.
58' DECENT EFFORT! Maguire goes on a marauding run through the centre of the park and cuts inside onto his right foot. From the edge of the box, the United captain fires a shot wide to the left of Silva’s goal.
57' Montoro looks to pick out Kenedy, although the winger just went a fraction too early and the flag goes up for offside.
55' Maguire is tripped by Neva and United win a free-kick in an advanced position down the right flank. Fernandes’ delivery bounces around inside the hosts’ box before being fired clear by Diaz.
Germán Sánchez
Domingos Duarte
54' After that earlier coming together with James, Duarte is unable to continue. He is replaced by Sanchez.
53' Telles delivers an out-swinging corner in from the left, which Soldado deals with at the near post.
52' There is going to be a momentary stoppage in play as James and Duarte are both down following that coming together. Both appear to be holding their knees.
Domingos Duarte
Yellow Card
51' James drives away from Duarte down the left wing before being caught by the Granada defender’s late sliding challenge. The Portuguese central defender picks up a yellow card for that foul.
50' Herrera shows quick feet to turn away from Telles before seeing his right-footed cross nodded behind for a corner by Maguire. From the set-piece, Pogba concedes another corner, which Kenedy fires at De Gea from range.
48' In setting up Rashford’s first-half goal, Lindelof registered his fourth assist for United in 152 appearances.
46' We are back underway! Arthur Soares Dias, the referee, blows his whistle and Granada get the second half kicked off.
Alex Telles
L. Shaw
Manchester United
46' The away side make one change at the break. Telles replaces Shaw for the second half.
Despite the scoreline, Martinez will be encouraged by his side’s first-half display. Aside from one ball in behind, the hosts have defended well as a unit and contained United’s attack. Kenedy and Puertas have looked dangerous down the flanks, and they will be key if the hosts are to draw level in the second half. Solskjaer, on the other hand, will want to see more of the same from his team. After grabbing the all-important away goal, United do not need to take too many risks after the break. As such, controlling the game will be at the forefront of the Red Devils’ manager’s mind.
Following an action-packed opening half, Manchester United hold a one-goal lead at half-time. After an evenly-matched start, the Red Devils took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Rashford latched onto Lindelof’s flighted pass and clinically slotted his finish beyond Silva. Granada responded well after going behind, with Herrera striking the post and Soldado firing just wide, before De Gea then kept out Kenedy’s first-time strike four minutes from half-time.
45' + 1' Following his opener, Rashford is the fourth Premier League player to reach 20 goals in all competitions this season after Harry Kane (29), Mo Salah (27) and Fernandes (23).
45' There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
44' GOOD STRIKE! The home side smartly work a corner to the edge of the box. Kenedy meets the flighted delivery cleanly, although his volley is fired straight into De Gea’s gloves.
L. Shaw
Yellow Card
Manchester United
42' Herrera sends the ball down the right-hand side for Puertas to chase, but he is pulled to the ground by Shaw. The full-back goes into the book and he will also miss the second leg.
41' JUST WIDE! Puertas flicks a corner from the right on for Soldado, and the Spaniard drags his close-range effort wide of the near post.
40' OFF THE POST! From the resulting free-kick, the delivery is swung in towards the back post and Herrera’s first-time ball across the box almost catches out De Gea as it cannons back into play off the outside of the post.
S. McTominay
Yellow Card
Manchester United
40' McTominay goes in with high studs and catches Herrera’s ankle. The Scottish midfielder is shown a yellow card and he can have no complaints with that decision. He will now miss the second leg against Granada at Old Trafford.
38' Diaz’s cross from the right flashes across the near post, but nobody in red and white gambles on the delivery in the centre of the box.
36' Fernandes recieves the ball a few yards outside of the Nazaries’ box, spins onto his right foot, and sees his shot deflect behind for a corner off Duarte. The resulting set-piece comes to nothing.
34' McTominay this time clips Montoro and the home side are awarded a free-kick inside their own defensive third.
32' Gonalons catches Fernandes from behind and the Red Devils win a free-kick on the edge of their own penalty area.
V. Lindelöf
Manchester United
31' Lindelof deserves huge credit for his role in that breakthrough goal. The defender picked his head up and took his time over the pass, before delivering a well-weighted forward ball for Rashford. The attacker took it down superbly and gave Silva no chance with the finish.
M. Rashford
Manchester United
31' GOOAAAAALLL! United take the lead in Spain! Lindelof launches an inch-perfect pass from deep inside his own half over the Granada defence for Rashford to chase. The Englishman perfectly times his run and expertly controls the ball before finding the bottom-right corner from the centre of the box. 1-0.
29' OPENING! A lofted throughball down the inside-left channel picks out Kenedy, and his ambitious first-time strike from inside the United area sails over De Gea’s goal.
27' JUST WIDE! After some neat play down the left flank, Fernandes’ effort from an acute angle deflects back to Rashford, who curls a well-struck shot just wide of the far post from the left side of the box.
26' Herrera was down momentarily after colliding with McTominay in the centre of the pitch, although he is now back to his feet and able to continue.
25' Herrera clatters through the back of McTominay in seeking to win an aerial ball, and the Red Devils win a free-kick just inside their own half.
23' Fernandes goes down under pressure from Gonalons a few yards outside of Granada’s penalty area and the referee waves play on despite the Portuguese international’s protest.
21' The Nazaries advance down the right flank after Soldado picked out Puertas. The winger drives towards the byline before seeing his low cross hooked to safety by Lindelof in the centre of the box.
19' OVER! Rashford fires the set-piece towards Silva’s goal, but his right-footed drive did not dip enough to trouble the Spanish side’s goalkeeper.
18' Fernandes looks to find a way through Granada’s defence and is brought down by Herrera a few yards outside the hosts’ penalty area. Rashford is standing over the free-kick.
17' Solskjaer’s side have settled into their rhythm now and are beginning to see a little more of the ball. Fernandes is dropping into the space between Granada’s defence and midfield, although the away side are yet to heavily involve the Portuguese midfielder.
15' Shaw lays a short corner off to Rashford, who then picks out Greenwood. The attacker’s left-footed cross from the right is nodded down to Pogba before the Frenchman’s reverse pass is cleared.
13' Montoro sends the ball long for Soldado to gather on the halfway line, but the Spanish forward just moved into the United half and is flagged as offside by the referee’s assistant.
11' Rashford collects Pogba’s pass inside the hosts’ half and is pulled back by Diaz as he turned away from the defender. Free-kick to the Red Devils.
10' Montoro clips the resulting free-kick in towards Soldado, and Fernandes is alert to nod the ball behind for a corner. The set-piece is taken short, and the eventual cross deflects into De Gea’s gloves.
P. Pogba
Yellow Card
Manchester United
8' Pogba picks up the first yellow card of the match after catching Kenedy’s left ankle in stretching to collect his own heavy first touch. The hosts now have a free-kick midway inside the United half.
6' Greenwood works the ball inside following a throw-in from the left and picks out Pogba. The Frenchman goes for goal from range, and his strike is blocked by Herrera.
4' Puertas finds a yard of space midway inside the visitors’ half and lays the ball off to his left for Neva. The full-back floats a cross into the back post which Shaw is able to deal with.
3' Lindelof brings the ball out of defence and launches a lofted throughball for James to chase, although the pass is overhit and runs behind for a goal-kick.
1' The hosts start on the front foot with Kenedy breaking down the left-hand side of the field. His low left-footed cross into the centre of the box is hooked away to safety by Maguire with Soldado lurking.
1' Kick-off! The referee, Artur Manuel Soares Dias, blows his whistle and United get us underway.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Nuevo Los Carmenes.

In the Europa League this season, the home side have only suffered defeat in one of their five matches at Nuevo Los Carmenes. Across those matches, Martinez’s team have conceded two goals. This is Granada’s maiden European campaign, making them the first side since RB Leipzig in 2017-18 to reach the quarter-finals of a major European competition in their first season. Solskjaer’s team, on the other hand, are yet to lose in the Europa League, and they have scored five goals in their last two European away matches. Not only that, but the Red Devils have also kept back-to-back clean sheets on the road in the Europa League.
Diego Martinez makes two changes from the Granada side that lost to Villarreal last time out in La Liga. Vallejo and Neva come into the defence in place of Sanchez and Quini. The Red Devils’ line-up, on the other hand, features three alterations from their one-goal win over Brighton. De Gea returns to the team in place of Henderson, while McTominay and James also start ahead of Fred and Cavani.
