Madrid edge past Elche after a thrilling period of extra-time. This game was a slow burner. Elche started off well in the first half, but Carrillo missed a golden chance to give them the lead from close range. Madrid, on the other hand, dominated the second half, but couldn't find a way through. However, the game burst into life in extra-time. First, Marcelo was sent off for a professional foul. Then, from the resulting free-kick Verdu's deflected strike gave Elche the lead. It looked like that would be the end for the visitors but they fought back in the second half of extra-time. First, Ceballos' strike deflected in off Isco, before Hazard sensationally netted a late winner. There was controversy late on as Elche had a goal ruled out, with Milla being shown a second yellow card in the protests. Nevertheless, Madrid held on for a brilliant comeback win.
