From Bale to Kovacic: Which players could leave Real Madrid this summer?

Real Madrid's second-choice goalkeeper looks likely to make way this summer if Los Blancos bring in Thibaut Courtois. Kiko Casilla did not have the trust of the coaching staff last season, although he may have another chance after Julen Lopetegui took over this summer. He could also be kept on if Courtois does not arrive, but a move seems a probability for the former Espanyol goalkeeper.

Real Madrid now have Spain's two first-choice right-backs after bringing in Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad earlier this summer, so Achraf Hakimi is certain to leave the club this summer. The Moroccan international is still only 19 and could go out on loan. And if he departs on a permanent transfer, Madrid may look to include a buy-back option on the talanted teenage defender.

Spain's talented Under-21 midfielder was wanted by half of Europe last summer, but opted to sign for Real Madrid. However, opportunities have been few and far between and a loan move now looks likely in the summer – possibly to former club Betis. A permanent transfer is also a possibility, although the player is keen to fight for his Madrid future.

The defensive midfielder has followed in the footsteps of father Paco and great uncle Francisco Gento at Real Madrid, but he is beginning to become frustrated at his lack of playing time for Los Blancos. The 23-year-old is some way down the pecking order at Santiago Bernabeu and is set to leave this summer. He and the club must now decide whether the transfer is a loan option or a permanent deal.

The young striker was kept at Madrid as Alvaro Morata and Mariano both left last year, but has not really grabbed his chance to be back-up for Karim Benzema and the 21-year-old is set to be surplus to requirements this summer. The Spanish Under-21 striker, who scored seven goals in 30 appearances last term, could be sent out again on loan (having played for Wolfsburg in 2016-17), but may leave on a permanent deal.

Signed by Real Madrid in 2015, the Spanish Under-21 defender has had successful spells on loan at former club Zaragoza and at Eintracht Frankfurt. Brought back last summer following the departure of Pepe, he has had problems through injury and made only a handful of appearances. Still only 21 and with plenty of promise, he looks likely to be shipped out for another spell on loan this summer.

Mateo Kovacic is highly regarded at Real Madrid, but the Croatia midfielder has grown frustrated at a lack of starts since signing from Inter in 2015 and admitted during the World Cup that he wants to leave this summer in search of first-team football. Coach Julen Lopetegui wants him to stay, but it looks like the 24-year-old is still set on a transfer – quite possibly to the Premier League.

Keylor Navas has started in three consecutive Champions League finals for Real Madrid and is popular with team-mates and fans, but Los Blancos are still looking for an upgrade on the Costa Rica goalkeeper and even though he has said he will stay whatever happens, he could end up making way if Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois is brought in this summer.

Karim Benzema lost two of his biggest allies this summer as Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo both left Real Madrid. However, the France forward remains the only senior number '9' at the club and that makes his sale extremely unlikely this summer – even if Los Blancos did bring in another striker. President Florentino Perez also remains a big fan.

Gareth Bale's situation at Real Madrid has changed dramatically. The Welsh winger had looked certain to leave after an indifferent season interrupted again by injury, but his match-winning performance in the Champions League final against Liverpool (including a stunning overhead kick) and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus mean he is now very likely to stay put this summer.
