After Sunday Chinedu's winner for the Harmony Warriors over the Desert Warriors, the coach feels the victory will help their aspirations

Abubakar Bala believes his side's 2-1 win over Yobe Desert Stars at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin on Sunday could be a turning point for Kwara United.

The Harmony Warriors had impressed since the former Niger Tornadoes gaffer took over the reins in March, with Plateau United defeat their only loss in last nine league outings.

After a 1-1 draw at Damaturu a week ago, the Ilorin based side secured their fourth draw of the season and were hopeful of subduing the Desert Warriors in the return leg last Sunday.

Chinedu Ohanachum's 31st-minute effort almost ruined the hosts hope of seeing victory after he cancelled Segun Alebiosu's opener in the 25th minute.

But Sunday Chinedu's second-half strike 20 minutes from full time handed the Kwara Boys their first win after seven league matches.

And Bala is upbeat about helping his side retain their top-flight status.

I'm very happy with the victory because it definitely has kept my hope alive," Bala told Goal.

"I want to take the win [against Yobe Desert Stars] as a turning point for my team. Yobe gave us a good fight and also brings out the best in us after equalising our first goal.

"I told them [Before the match] to redouble their efforts of the first leg because Yobe Desert will feel if we can pull a draw in Damaturu, they can also do the same in Ilorin.

"I'm happy with the way my players played and very satisfied with their performance and the level of blending of the old and newly recruited players in just nine days."

After the narrow win, Kwara United are 17th on the log with 22 points from 20 games this season.
