Yanga’s struggles continue as they lose to Mtibwa Sugar

Yanga’s winless run extended to seven games in all competitions as they accepted a 1-0 defeat from Mtibwa Sugar at the Jamhuri stadium in Morogoro.

The last time Yanga secured a win was April 7 when they played against Wolayta Dicha in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg clash at Dar es Salaam where they were under departed Head Coach George Lwandamina.

Since then, Yanga have passed through hard times where they have lost five times and drawn twice. The defeat against Mtibwa Sugar is the fourth in row after receiving knocks from Simba, USM Alger and Tanzania Prison on the road.

Yanga have already lost the league title to Simba since last Thursday after previousydefending it for three seasons in row.

In the match, Yanga improved in terms of their squad compared to the last match against Tanzania Prison were they had only two players on the bench.

This time, Yanga had five players on the bench and had their number one goalkeeper Youthe Rostand back in the starting line-up.

The game started in high speed with both teams trying to score goals before half time but the chances didn’t arrive for either side.

In the second half, Yanga returned a little stronger than Mtibwa Sugar and created a lot of clear chances but unfortunately their finishing was poor.

Yanga’s Thaban Kamusoko and Matheo Anthony saw their efforts hit the post. With seven minutes to go, former Yanga midfielder Hassan Dilunga scored a beautiful goal after capitalizing on Yanga’s defensive misunderstandings.

The defeat left Yanga in third place at the table with their 48 points, four behind Azam in the second with the Jangwani club have played less games.

Yanga will now turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they will play host to Rwanda’s Rayon Sports on May 16 in the second game of the group stage. They lost 4-0 to USM Alger in the opening game last Sunday.

Elsewhere, in the Mbeya derby, Mbeya City held to a goalless draw by Tanzania Prison in another league clash played this evening.
