Yanga’s hopes towards a fourth straight Premier League title have been severely dented following a senseless draw against 10-man Mbeya City at Sokoine stadium.
The Jangwani club who still have two games in hand headed into the game 12 points behind the league leaders Simba and knowing only a win can help them narrow the deficit.
The two teams played a goalless draw until the break with Mbeya City troubling Yanga’s defense more often.
Ten minutes after the restart, former Mbeya City man Rafael Daud fired Yanga ahead with a curling effort from 16-yards following a good pass from Juma Abdul.
With 15 minutes to go, Mbeya City’s Ramadhan Malima was shown a second yellow card by referee Shamari Rawi following a late tackle on Yusuph Mhilu who was in a wave for a counterattack.
However, Yanga did not use the numerical advantage after a slip up in defense allowed Idd Suleiman to equalize in the first minute of injury time.
Yanga remain second with 48 points, 11 behind Simba while Mbeya City have increased their hopes of survival.
The Jangwani club who will represent the country in the CAF tournament next month will have to turn their attention to their next match which is the eagerly awaited Dar Derby where they will meet arch rivals Simba on April 29.
