Wright announced on his Twitter that he is set to take part of the 2019 edition of British survival reality television show I'm a Celeb, which features famous celebrities as they attempt to live in an Australian jungle for weeks to be crowned king or queen of the jungle.

He joins a long list of football figures who have already taken part in the show, following in the footsteps of Harry Redknapp and Wayne Bridge.

On his appearance in the reality show, Wright joked that he was doing so to escape VAR: "I'll miss football. I love football, it's my whole life.

"I will not miss VAR. I'm going in there to get away from VAR."
