Vandalism: Mohun Bagan lodge FIR against East Bengal fans

After Tuesday evening's shameful incident which saw a group of East Bengal fans vandalise the Mohun Bagan club gate after East Bengal's Calcutta Football League (CFL) win over Tollygunje Agragami, the Mariners have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Maidan Police Station.

Mohun Bagan ground secretary Swapan Banerjee filed the complaint against a section of 'unidentified' East Bengal fans for damaging the club tent. Banerjee also stated in the complaint that the club's signboard was damaged and two members were 'badly injured' while the miscreants made inappropriate gestures at the club's female supporters.

The club has handed over video footage of the altercation and several pictures to the police who will now look into the incident.

“We have lodged a FIR. Both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are hugely respected clubs. Their (East Bengal) fans have done something like this. We want to see what action East Bengal take against them. We hope proper action is taken,“ said Bagan's finance secretary Debashish Dutta.

Senior East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar has also implored the cops to take stringent action against the perpetrators. He told Goal last night, "We condemn such an act by a section of our fans. We do not endorse such terrible acts and we sincerely hope the administration will take proper action against the miscreants."

Several reports have stated that the incident was sparked after the East Bengal supporters got into an argument with a few Mohun Bagan fans while returning from the CFL match.

With the title-decider of the CFL coming up on September 24th between the two arch-rivals in Siliguri, this incident is sure to spice up the tension between the two clubs.
