UEFA Champions League Road to Madrid: Liverpool's Round of 16 highlights

It has been a spectacular run for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League this season and they will want to end it on a high by beating Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the final on June 2.

The Reds had reached the final last season as well but failed to win it as they lost to mighty Real Madrid. They have reached three European finals in Jurgen Klopp’s and regime and lost two so far. They have got a chance to redeem them this season and would want to win their sixth Champions League title and finish a wonderful season on a high.

As Klopp’s men are gearing up to face Tottenham in Madrid, we look back at their journey in the Champions League this season.
 

ROUND OF 16 - LEG 1

Liverpool 0-0 Bayern Munich

Liverpool failed to stamp their authority on a battling Bayern Munich as a 0-0 first-leg draw at Anfield left their Champions League last 16 tie in the balance.

The Premier League side produced the more promising attacking moments against a circumspect opponent but are likely to need an away goal when the teams reconvene at Allianz Arena.

Jurgen Klopp, robbed of Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren through suspension and injury, would at least be pleased with the way his back four navigated the rare instances of danger posed to them by the German champions.
 

ROUND OF 16 - LEG 2

Bayern Munich 1-3 Liverpool

Sadio Mane's brace inspired Liverpool to a convincing 3-1 win at Bayern Munich and a place in the Champions League quarter-finals. 

The Senegal forward's excellent 26th-minute opener gave Jurgen Klopp's side a priceless away goal but, in a similar vein to the goalless first leg at Anfield, the action was fitful and error-strewn for the most part.

Bayern were level at the break thanks to Joel Matip's (39') own goal but Niko Kovac's side were never able to mount a sustained victory push. 

A typically dominant Virgil van Dijk (69') powered in to leave a forlorn Bayern with a mountain to climb and Mane (84') administered the knockout blow six minutes from time.
