Toko Ekambi beats Wahbi Khazri, Bertrand Traore to Marc-Vivien Foe prize

Angers forward Karl Toko Ekambi has been awarded the 2018 Marc-Vivien Foe prize.

Following an impressive performance for ‎Les Scoistes this campaign, Toko Ekambi amassed 264 points to see off competition from close rivals Rennes’ Wahbi Khazri and Lyon’s Bertrand Traore who had 165 points and 61 points respectively.

The 25-year-old, currently the leading African top scorer in the French top-flight with 17 goals in 36 appearances this term, becomes the first Cameroonian to claim the award since its inception.

Prix Marc-Vivien Foe is an annual award presented to the best African player in the French Ligue 1 in honour of Marc-Vivien Foe – a former Cameroon international who died in 2003 while playing for the Indomitable Lions at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France.

The right-footed attacker joins Gervinho, Sofiane Boufal, Andre Ayew, Vincent Enyeama, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marouane Chamakh and Michael Seri in the list of players to have won the accolade.
