The Batoto ba Mungu waded their way up the ladder in the tournament to book Sharks, thanks to their sponsors Betika, who empowered them financially since March 2017. And as a morale booster, bearing in mind that Caf Confederation Cup is at stake, Betika has offered them the gift, which comes in handy with Mashujaa Day celebrations.
This development has been confirmed to Goal by Betika’s Head of Commercial, Stanley Mwangi. ”As official sponsors, Betika has offered a Sh1 million prize to Sofapaka, should they win on the day and lift the title. We want to show them we believe in their ability to win the trophy and to entertain Kenyans with top level football.
“We are keen on nurturing talents and encouraging Sofapaka players to believe on themselves under our ‘bet on yourself’ slogan and we believe that this partnership will enable them to fully exploit their abilities on the pitch during the match and many matches to come.”
So far, Sofapaka have had an inspiring journey since they got promoted into the Kenyan Premier League. They have won the President’s Cup (Shield Cup) thrice, the Kenyan Super Cup twice and the Kenyan Premier League once.
In 2016, things were tough for them but when Betika, one of Kenya’s premier betting companies, chose to back them up in 2017, they have risen to be a force to reckon with and achieved a top five finish in the 2018 season.
