Shakes Mashaba: Bafana Bafana should stop stressing about ‘petty things’ and qualify for 2019 Afcon

Legendary South Africa coach Shakes Mashaba says Bafana Bafana should to stop stressing about ‘petty things’ and focus on beating Libya in March.

The former Bafana coach was speaking as the South African senior national team prepares to take on Libya in a crucial Africa of Cup of Nations Cup (Afcon) in March.

Stuart Baxter recently stated that he will resign as the national team coach if Bafana fail to qualify for the continental tournament.

“We are worried about petty things like where the match is going to be played‚” Mashaba was quoted as saying by The Citizen.

The 1996 Afcon champions have to avoid defeat against Libya in order to book their place in the finals which will be hosted in Egypt between June and July.

Mashaba urged Bafana to focus on ensuring that South Africa qualify for the tournament.

“We really shouldn’t be worrying about those things and we should be focusing our energies on putting the best possible team together to go out there and making sure that they carry out the mission of winning the match," he concluded.

Baxter was heavily linked with the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job after failing to guide Bafana to the 2018 Fifa World Cup finals last year.

Mashaba remains the last coach to guide Bafana to the Afcon finals in 2015 which took place in Equatorial Guinea.
