Saturday's PSL preview: Highlands Park look to humble Cape Town City, Black Leopards eye Wits scalp

The Lions of the North are keen to humble an in-form Citizens side, while Lidoda Duvha hope to stun wounded Clever Boys

Highlands Park will welcome Cape Town City in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday.

The Lions of the North are wounded at the moment having lost 2-1 to AmaZulu FC at home in their previous league game in midweek.

As a result, they are placed 10th on the league standings with 12 points from 11 matches. They are three points above the relegation spot.

Highlands head coach Owen Da Gama will be keen mastermind a win which would see his side move further away from the relegation zone.

The Tembisa-based side will look to Lindokuhle Mbatha, who has been one of the team's best players this season having scored three league goals.

Meanwhile, City are in good form at the moment having secured their third successive league win when they defeated Polokwane City 2-1 away in midweek.

The victory took the Citizens to eighth spot on the league standings with 16 points from 11 games. They are three points behind fourth-placed SuperSport United.

City head coach Benni McCarthy will be eager to lead his side to victory which would see his side cement its spot in the top eight.

Ayanda Patosi, who netted against Polokwane, will look to continue his good form and help the Citizens overcome Highlands.

The last league meeting between Highlands and City was on the 7th of February 2017.

The Citizens thrashed the Lions of the North 3-0 at the Cape Town Stadium. 

At the Thohoyandou Stadium, Black Leopards are expected to play host to Bidvest Wits in a PSL match. 

Lidoda Duvha extended their winless run to five games in all competitions when they lost 3-1 to Cape Town City away earlier this month.

As a result, they are placed 16th on the league standings with nine points from 11 matches. They are three points behind 10th-placed Highlands.

New Leopards head coach Dylan Kerr will be hoping to guide the team to victory in his first competitive match in charge of the team. 

Mwape Musonda has been Lidoda Duvha's best player this season having netted twice in the league, and the Zambian striker will look to inspire the team to victory against Wits.

Meanwhile, Wits saw their three-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end when they lost 2-1 to Bloemfontein Celtic at home earlier this month.

The Clever Boys are currently placed third on the league standings with 20 points from 11 matches. They are three points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.

A win will see Gavin Hunt's side keep up with the pacesetters in the race for this season's PSL title.

The last time Leopards and Wits clashed in a league game was on the 12th of February 2013.

The Clever Boys secured a 2-0 win over Lidoda Duvha at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
