Samatta, Luyindama on target in Standard Liege’s stalemate vs. Genk

Mbwana Samatta and Christian Luyindama scored the goals in Standard Liege’s 1-1 stalemate with Genk at Stade Maurice Dufrasne in Sunday’s Belgian First Division A encounter.

The 25-year-old Tanzanian continued his impressive form, scoring his 17th goal of the season as the Blue-White’s three-game winning run was halted by Luyindama’s late-minutes effort.

Samatta broke the deadlock in the 84th minute to give Philippe Clement’s men the lead.

With the game heading the way of the visitors, Luyindama levelled proceedings at the death.

Both players featured for the entire duration of the game while Mali’s Moussa Djenepo - on parade for the Reds - was replaced in the 81st minute by Orlando Sa.

Despite the stalemate, Genk maintain their position on the top of the log with 30 points from 12 games while Liege are placed sixth with 20 points from the same number of matches.

The Blue-White travel to Bosuilstadion to take on Antwerp while the Reds tackle Zulte-Waregem at Regenboogstadion on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
