Oktay has replaced Dylan Kerr, who quit the club to sign for South African Premier League side Black Leopards. Oktay, a Cypriot of Turkish origin, agreed to pen a two-year contract with the Kenyan Premier League champions.
Oktay, who arrived in the country on December 2, was given a contract after impressing during his short stay with K’Ogalo. The tactician first took charge during the Caf Champions League second round of the preliminary stage where he helped Gor Mahia overcome Nyasa Big Bullets.
Oktay was also on in the stands as Gor Mahia went down 2-1 to Kariobangi Sharks in the Super Cup but later took charge as the team went down 2-1 to Bandari in the league opener played on Saturday.
Hassan Oktay is a Uefa ‘A’ Licensed coach and has had stints in England, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. In his last head coaching job, Oktay handled Grays Athletic in the Isthmian league which is a regional league in London. The club finished 14th out of 22 teams.
