NPFL resumption postponed indefinitely

The much advertised July 18 resumption date of the 2017-18 Nigeria Professional Football League season is no longer feasible a top official of the Club Owners Association has disclosed.

In a circular sent to the various clubs in the top flight and signed by the executive secretary of the Club Owners Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka directed that NPFL matches have been postponed for now to allow amicable resolution to the leadership tussle in the Nigeria Football Federation.

“I am directed to bring to the notice of all members and clubs that the resumption date of the 2017-18 season earlier scheduled for Wednesday 18th July 2018 has been put on hold,” Chukwuemeka said in a statement to the 20 Premier League clubs.

“Consequently the league resumption date has been postponed indefinitely until further notice. The postponement is as a result of some unresolved issues amongst the stakeholders within the football circle.

“A new date will be communicated by the LMC. Thank you for your understanding of the situation as we regret the inconveniences it has caused you. The notice is a sequel to information at our disposal from the LMC,  while an official letter to this effect will be sent by the LMC.”

The leadership imbroglio between Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa over who is the authentic NFF president resurrected again after the Super Eagles elimination from the 2018 World Cup and despite the threat of a Fifa ban, it is yet to be resolved.
