Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic admitted that it hurt him to see football fans around the country mock the club prior to his arrival at the Houghton-based side.

The Serbian tactician inherited a struggling Bucs team when he replacred Kjell Jonevret at the start of the 2017/18 PSL campaign.

Micho indicated that Pirates were made fun of on social media with “everybody making jokes about this respected institution”.

“Pirates were mocked everywhere. It was a joke, but when I got here in my first season, I wanted to bring back smiles to the faces of the fans and restore the dignity of the club," Sredjojevic told the media.

Sredojevic transformed Bucs into PSL title contenders last season and ultimately, they finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

The well-travelled coach masterminded Bucs' 2-1 win over Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a massive PSL match last weekend.

“I have done that. I am proud of my players, but the derby victory is now in the past. We have to prepare for the cup game against AmaZulu," he continued.

The win saw Bucs remain second on the league standings, and Micho stated that they should not get carried away.

“We have no right to get carried away. We want to focus on each match as it comes,” he said.

“We will fight for everything on offer as it's proper for a big club, but we don’t want to commit ourselves to winning this or that title," Micho said.

“Let’s see at the end of the season where we finish – for now we don’t want to talk too much about our targets," he concluded.
