Martial hoping to avoid Man Utd rotation after rediscovering form and confidence

Anthony Martial has told Jose Mourinho that he is relishing regular game time and is hoping to avoid rotation at Manchester United.

The France international forward started the 2017-18 on the fringes of the fold, with much of his action seen from off the bench.

He proved himself to be a useful impact option, amid an early flurry of goals, but regularly expressed a desire to take in more starts.

Mourinho has handed him those opportunities of late and Martial – who has found the target three times in 2018 – is eager to remain involved, even if the games continue to come thick and fast.

He told MUTV: "We all like it when we’re playing every three days, that’s football at the highest level these days.

"We’re always ready and prepared and, what’s more, we have the squad to cope with the amount of games, so it’s an exciting period ahead."

United’s next outing will see them face Newcastle in Premier League competition on Sunday.

Attention then switches to the FA Cup and a fifth round date with Huddersfield, with that contest followed by the first leg of a Champions League last-16 encounter with Sevilla.

If the Red Devils are to continue to compete on multiple fronts, then they will need the likes of Martial to maintain their current standards.

The 22-year-old has seen his efforts recognised with the club’s Player of the Month award for January, with that particular prize having now been claimed on three occasions in 2017-18.

Martial puts that down to playing with confidence, with there a belief in his game at the moment which allows him to deliver on his undoubted potential.

He added: "I feel really good at the moment, I’m training hard and, to be fair, with the matches and results since the new year, we've made a decent start, so I hope we can continue in the same vein.

"It's a real honour for me that the supporters have voted for me. I think now it’s the third time it’s happened this season. I just hope I can keep this run going and maybe even try and win a few more of them!"
